Mass Job Cuts Under Rightsizing of Federal Government Shake Pakistan Post: 466 Positions Abolished

Pakistan Post has abolished 466 vacant jobs across the country under a federal right‑sizing plan. The cuts affect key roles from Grade 2 to Grade 14. Most removed posts were for clerks, postmen, and mail services. The move follows a larger government effort to reduce empty positions.

Pakistan Post Abolishes 466 Vacant Posts Under Right‑Sizing Drive

Pakistan Post removed 466 vacant posts nationwide. The decision falls under the federal right‑sizing effort. The abolished roles ranged from Grade 2 to Grade 14.

The cuts cover UDC, LDC, clerks (regular and time‑scale), postmen, mail peons, porters, postal clerks, ASPO, SV, and runners. Postal circles across the country received official notifications with details of the abolished posts.

Under the notification approved by the Ministry of Communications, Grade 2 saw the biggest share — 216 abolished posts. Grade 9 followed with 141 posts removed.

This move aligns with a broader federal campaign that has already scrapped more than 30,000 vacant posts in various departments. Pakistan Post’s cut adds to that tally.

Officials say the decision affects only vacant posts. No current employees face layoffs. Many of the posts remained unfilled for years. The right‑sizing aims to reduce costs and remove unused positions from the system.

However, some analysts caution that overcutting can be detrimental to the postal services most so in the rural regions and under staffed circles. The service load is still available and the less number of staff members might slow down delivery and operations.

The job losses indicate greater predicaments of strained budgets of the public institutions. As Pakistan Post reduces its staff, the onlookers will observe if the company will retain quality of services or continue to insist on changes in future.
