Pakistan Hits All-Time High Fuel Prices with Petrol and Diesel Increase

The government of Pakistan has increased the prices of petrol and diesel hitting all-time high prices. Ishaq Dar said the price increased due to the devaluation of the Pakistani Rupee. After the price increase, the new price of petrol is RS 272 per liter and diesel is RS 280 per liter. The price hike in petrol is 22.20 per liter and diesel increased by 17.20 per liter. Government new prices will initiate from February 16. The increased price of kerosene is 202.73 per liter and the light diesel price is 196.68 per liter. Kerosene increased by 12.90 per liter and the light Diesel price rise 9.68 per liter.

In the last month, the prices of petrol and diesel hiked by RS 35 per liter. A recent price increase decision brought into existence a minute before 12 o clock midnight, to prevent people rushing towards petrol pumps. A new increase in price is up to 124 percent for some consumers. The government made a change in the price of fuel in January. A recent increase in the price of petrol and diesel records a massive rise in history. Meanwhile, the OGRA has increased the price of LPG by RS 2 per kilogram up to the end of February.

According to OGRA, the LPG price has fixed at RS 266 per kg taking the price of a domestic cylinder to RS 3,142 after an increase of RS 27 and that of a commercial cylinder to RS 12,086 after a hike of RS 102. New gas prices will initiate from January 1 to June 30 2023 have been notified in line with an economic coordination committee decision that agreed upon by the federal cabinet. The government expects to collect RS 310bn in the next six months from a gas consumer. Price increases in gas will not apply to domestic consumers who will use 50 cubic meters of gas.

Decisions were initiated after presenting the mini budget in parliament. Finance minister Ishaq Dar approved the increase in the price of petrol and diesel at the cabinet meeting. Prices of fuel don’t seem to get stable until and less the price of the dollar gets controlled. The government is taking very serious decisions which seem to affect the lower class of society.
