Pakistan to Get Artificial Island to Boost Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) plans to build an artificial island Pakistan about 30 km off Sindh’s coast near Sujawal to boost oil and gas exploration. The island, raised six feet above sea level, will host up to 25 exploration wells and operate around the clock from February 2026.

Artificial Island Pakistan to Power Oil Exploration

Pakistan Petroleum Limited revealed a bold plan to reclaim sea land and build an artificial island in Pakistan for oil and gas exploration. The goal is to scale up production and minimize the tidal downtime.

The island will rise six feet above water and sit roughly 30 km off the Sindh coast, close to Sujawal. That height gives it stability, allowing operations day and night. PPL expects to complete construction by February 2026.

Once built, the artificial island will support up to 25 drilling rigs. These wells will drill directly from the platform, making it a permanent offshore base. The project draws on models used in the Gulf, where nations rely on landscaped islands for offshore energy work.

This push comes at a strategic time. Pakistan just awarded 23 offshore exploration blocks — its biggest offshore bidding round in over two decades. PPL holds some of these blocks, putting it at the center of Pakistan’s offshore energy revival.

By building this artificial island Pakistan, PPL gains continuous access to deepwater resources. No more stopping when the tide rises. The platform promises reliable, round-the-clock exploration.
