Petrol Price in Pakistan: Expected Increase from April 16, 2024

In an unprecedented move, fuel prices in Pakistan set to reach new heights. The petrol price projected to soar to approximately Rs300 per liter from April 16, a significant increase triggered by global price fluctuations and the federal government’s decision to hike the levy.

The imminent price hike, as disclosed by insiders, will see petrol prices rise by nearly Rs8 per liter. Over the forthcoming fortnight, petrol prices expected to peak at around Rs298 per liter, a substantial increase from the current Rs289.40 per liter. Concurrently, diesel prices are also on an upward trajectory, with an anticipated increase of around Rs2 per liter, pushing the price to approximately Rs284.24 per liter from the existing Rs282.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the Pakistani government is contemplating a significant increase in the petroleum levy. The proposed increase from Rs60 to Rs100 per liter, if implemented, would push the levy to its maximum limit, currently capped at Rs60 per liter.

This potential increase could lead to the highest-ever petrol prices in Pakistan’s history. The government expected to announce the revised rates on April 15, contingent on the final exchange rate calculation. As consumers brace for this impact, the nation awaits further details on this development.
