Interim Finance Minister, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar said that the deadline for Tax Amnesty Scheme will remain the same.
While chairing a high level meeting at the FBR, she was briefed on the progress of the Tax Amnesty Scheme. She was also informed of the present position for the country’s revenue generation.
Dr. Shahmshad Akhtar while addressing the FBR officers said that the deadline for the scheme will not extend.
She also requested the FBR officials to maximize efforts for yielding best results whilst the scheme lasts.
The Finance Minister proposed to run ad campaign in the remainder period of the scheme to maximize its utilization.
Dr. Shahshad asked FBR to introduce schemes for simplifying, filing of returns and automation.
She also told of the need of replacing physical checking at ports with quality scanners. She said that this would boost revenue and save time and labor costs used in during customs clearance.
The Chairman of FBR informed the Minister of Finance that positive results were found during the period of the amnesty.
The Tax Amnesty Scheme was introduced by the former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. It was introduced for bringing back money from foreign accounts to Pakistan. However; it was heavily opposed by opposition parties claiming it to be a way to clean the black money and ease money laundering.
