Transporters across Pakistan have announced a nationwide wheel jam strike on July 19, 2025, in support of the traders’ protest against the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) powers granted in the federal budget. The decision was made during a meeting between transporter leaders and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) officials at the chamber’s head office.
According to KCCI, all transport operations and supply chains will remain suspended on July 19. Transporter leaders Malik Shehzad Awan and Malik Sher Khan confirmed their full support and said no vehicle will operate across the country. They stated that if traders extend the strike, the transport community will also extend its protest accordingly.
Malik Sher Khan, President of Karachi Goods Carrier Association, warned that the strike will only be called off if the finance minister accepts their demands. He added that the transport sector will not resume operations until their concerns are addressed.
KCCI President Javed Balwani said that despite repeated phone calls from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Finance for dialogue, the finance minister has not met with them in Karachi. He emphasized that the business community joined the tax net voluntarily and accused FBR of not bringing anyone into the system.
Balwani demanded that the government immediately accept the demands of traders and transporters and withdraw all controversial measures or face a nationwide shutdown.
