Islamabad: CJP Saqib Nisar asked an explanation about the imposition of tax on petrol.
Saqib Nisar asked the relevant departments about the levy of tax on petrol. During a hearing, he remarked that petroleum prices seldom go down in Pakistan whenever the prices decline in the global market. Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan asked Additional Attorney General Nasar about the type of taxes imposed on petrol and petroleum prices in the global market.
Additional AG said that tax on Petrol in Pakistan is lowest in the entire region. He further added that India is collecting 27% tax on the petroleum products. However, CJP Saqib Nisar remarked that taxes of both countries are incomparable. He later adjourned the court hearing for a week. A few days back, the federal government suggested the increment of 200% in the petroleum levy.
