The private school strike scheduled to be on January 9, 2026, is cancelled. After good negotiations with the provincial government, now all the private schools will still be open and no more academic disturbances to millions of people in the province tomorrow.
Why was the January 9 strike cancelled?
The Grand Alliance of Private Schools Associations withdrew its protest call after a high-level meeting. Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah met with school leaders to resolve the heated standoff. The government promised to address concerns regarding the “freeship” data verification process.
In the past schools reportedly harassed by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) conducting direct inspections. According to them, such raids instilled intimidation among students and teachers. However, the government and schools have settled on a more respectful clearer structure.
Tomorrow Schools Open or Closed?
- Sindh: All private and government schools will stay open on January 9.
- Punjab: Schools are currently in winter break and will reopen on January 13, 2026.
- Other Provinces: Normal schedules apply as no strikes were planned outside Sindh.
The Education Minister recognized the importance of the private sector. He guaranteed that the verification process will henceforth be headed by the Directorate of Private Institutions. This is a change that makes schools comply with the 10 percent free education law without the needless strain.
