In a positive turn of events, the Punjab government has decided to lift smog-related restrictions initially scheduled for the upcoming weekend, signaling a marked improvement in air quality. The announcement comes on the heels of recent rainfall in Lahore, contributing significantly to the enhanced Air Quality Index.
With Lahore now ranking seventh on the list of the most polluted cities, the decision to ease smog restrictions includes the reopening of schools on Friday and Saturday. The Punjab School Education Department has issued a notification, emphasizing the revised schedule for educational institutions.
The notification states, “Last week, the School Education Department, Government of Punjab, via notification No SO(A-1)1-31/2008 (P-1) dated 23-11-2023, announced the closure of public schools in Punjab only on Friday, 24-11-2023, and Saturday, 25-11-2023. Please be advised that all schools will now remain open for the entire week (Monday to Saturday), and no reliance should be placed on any notification or interpretation except those endorsed by this office.
It further emphasizes that any future closure notifications from the School Education Department, Government of Punjab, will be promptly conveyed by the respective office.
As smog dissipates and air quality improves, this decision ensures that students can resume their regular schedules, providing a breath of fresh air for educational activities in the region.
