The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has announced a significant policy shift by canceling Saturday as a weekly holiday for federal government schools and colleges. This new schedule, effective from November 30, 2024, aims to recover academic losses caused by extended school closures in recent months.
Saturday to Become a Working Day for Federal Schools
Under the new policy, both students and staff will now attend school six days a week, with Saturdays added as regular working days. This change will remain in effect until February 1, 2025, providing nearly two months of additional classroom time to help students catch up on their studies.
Addressing Academic Losses
The FDE emphasized that the decision is essential for completing the syllabus and preparing students for upcoming exams. Recent closures have disrupted the academic calendar, making it crucial to utilize Saturdays for focused learning.
Implementation of the Six-Day School Week
The updated schedule will be implemented across federal schools and colleges in Islamabad starting tomorrow. Authorities are hopeful that this initiative will help bridge learning gaps and enhance students’ academic progress.
