In a groundbreaking announcement, Punjab set to host Pakistan’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) university. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz revealed this development during the inauguration of the laptop scheme event in Faisalabad on Thursday.
The proposed university aims to equip students with knowledge and skills in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, and advanced sciences. “Our students should not lag behind and must compete on every frontier,” stated Maryam Nawaz, emphasizing the importance of preparing youth for future challenges.
Supporting Youth Through Education and Opportunities
The Chief Minister unveiled additional initiatives designed to empower students and encourage innovation. A new scheme allows students to take loans of up to Rs30 million, enabling them to pursue studies, engage in part-time jobs, or establish businesses. She also announced the allocation of free land to students aspiring to launch startups, fostering a culture of entrepreneurship in the province.
Enhanced Laptop Distribution Scheme
Maryam Nawaz also pledged an expansion of the laptop distribution initiative. The current scheme, which provides 30,000 laptops, set to increase to 50,000 next year. In addition, the government aims to double the laptop distribution to 100,000 units in the near future. Eligible students must score above 65% and enrolled in public universities or colleges.
Scholarships for Advanced Studies
Recognizing the need for financial support in higher education, Maryam Nawaz announced plans to introduce scholarships for students in their 3rd and 4th-year semesters. These scholarships will help ease the financial burden on deserving students and enable them to focus on academic excellence.
Promoting Research and Innovation
The Chief Minister highlighted the need for robust research programs in Pakistan and humorously referenced the growing use of tools like ChatGPT among students. She stressed the importance of fostering a culture of research and innovation, which aligns with the vision for the upcoming AI university.
