In response to the prevailing extreme weather conditions in Punjab, the interim government has rolled out revised Punjab school timings to prioritize the well-being of students. The School Education Department issued a notification confirming the extension of school hours due to the ongoing cold wave affecting Lahore and various parts of the province.
Effective immediately, school classes will commence at 9:30 am, and this adjustment will remain in place until January 31, 2024. The decision reflects the commitment of the Naqvi-led government to refrain from advancing winter holidays in educational institutions.
This strategic move not only ensures the continuity of educational activities but also addresses concerns about the biting cold weather. By delaying the start of school classes, authorities aim to safeguard the health and comfort of students during this challenging period.
While Punjab, along with KP, Kashmir, and Balochistan, grapples with a formidable cold wave, the Punjab government has opted not to extend winter holidays. This decision has, however, sparked mixed reactions, with some expressing dissatisfaction, especially considering the combined challenges of the cold weather and deteriorating air quality.
Previously, parents had urged the government to consider an extension of winter holidays due to the ongoing cold wave, with temperatures remaining below average. Despite these concerns, the Punjab government’s stance on keeping schools open underscores its commitment to maintaining educational continuity amid adverse weather conditions.
