Karachi: Higher Education Commission (HEC) released the Rs400 million grant to Karachi University.
HEC released the Rs400 million grant to Karachi University (KU). However, it is the first installment of from the total grant of Rs 1.8 billion. Earlier, the Planning Commission Islamabad approved the grant for KU in March 2018 meeting. The meeting was led by Sartaj Aziz, the deputy chairman of the Planning Commission. However, the aim of grant is to promote research and academic activities in Karachi University.
Various projects including 10 new buses for Karachi University students, main communication network and gymnasium, and upgrade of the biotechnology department are included in the proposal. In addition, upgrade of teaching/research facilities in KU departments, and a new block of the girls hostel for 200 students are also included. According to sources, new building and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for the centre for digital forensic science and technology and the visual studies department and new block for faculty of science and social sciences will also covered in the grant.
