Karachi Board Intermediate Part-I Students to Receive 15% Boost in 2023 Results
In a significant development, the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has announced an additional 15% marks for intermediate Part-I candidates in the upcoming 2023 examination results. This decision comes in response to concerns raised about unusually low marks awarded to Part-I students this year, prompting a thorough investigation by a fact-finding committee.
Under the directives of the Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, the decision aims to benefit students in the pre-engineering, pre-medical, and general science disciplines. This substantial increase in marks is expected to positively impact the overall grades of these students.
To ensure a smooth and error-free process, the Sindh Chief Minister has instructed authorities to establish additional papers inspection centers. Moreover, he emphasized the use of an optical marks recognition system for checking MCQ-based papers to minimize errors and enhance accuracy in the evaluation process.
The Chief Minister held the controller of examinations, deputy controllers, and the IT manager accountable for the conduct of the 2023 exams. The move comes after the BIEK declared results for the intermediate Part-I examination on January 23, revealing a stark decline in student performance.
Official statistics disclosed alarming figures, indicating an 80% failure rate in Arts (Regular), a 72% failure rate in Arts (Private), and a 63% failure rate in Commerce (Private) groups. The decision to grant additional marks aims to address these challenges and uplift the academic standing of Part-I students across various disciplines.
With these measures in place, the Karachi Board is actively working towards ensuring fairness and accuracy in the evaluation process, ultimately benefiting the educational outcomes of intermediate Part-I students in 2023.
