The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has rescheduled the intermediate exams for 2024 due to an impending severe heatwave. Originally set to begin on May 22, the exams will now commence on May 28, following the directive from Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
Why Were the Exams Postponed?
The decision to delay the exams was made after the Meteorological Office issued a warning about a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere. This system is expected to lead to heatwave conditions across most parts of the country, particularly in Punjab and Sindh, from May 21 onwards. Temperatures in these regions are predicted to rise significantly, with daytime highs potentially reaching 4 to 6°C above normal from May 21 to May 23 and 6 to 8°C above normal from May 23 to May 27.
Given these conditions, the authorities deemed it unsafe for students to sit for exams during such extreme weather. The postponement is aimed at protecting students’ health and well-being.
New Exam Schedule
- Old Start Date: May 22, 2024
- New Start Date: May 28, 2024
This rescheduling grants students additional time to prepare for their exams, potentially alleviating some of the stress associated with the heatwave and exam period.
Students are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions against the heat during this time. The BIEK will provide further updates as needed, and students should stay informed through official channels.
For more information, students and parents can visit the official BIEK website or contact their respective educational institutions.
