The annual intermediate examinations under the Karachi Higher Secondary Education Board have commenced, drawing the participation of over 139,000 students. With 180 examination centers established across the city, the exams are being conducted in both morning and afternoon shifts. Today, students will tackle English in the morning and Physics in the afternoon.
Security and Power Measures Implemented
In light of the large number of participants, the Chairman of the Intermediate Board, Naseem Memon, has declared 26 centers as sensitive, warranting the deployment of Rangers for added security. To ensure a smooth examination process, the Board has coordinated with K-Electric to prevent load shedding during exam hours. Strict regulations are in place prohibiting any electronic devices, mobile phones, or cheating materials within examination centers. Additionally, Section 144 has been enforced around all centers, and photocopy shops nearby will remain closed to curb any cheating attempts.
Mismanagement and Intermediate Paper Leak Issues
Despite these measures, the exams have been marred by mismanagement. During a visit to Abdullah Girls College, Chairman Naseem Memon highlighted significant staff absenteeism, with only 5 out of 40 teachers present. Private individuals were found performing duties meant for government teachers, a situation that has been reported to the education department.
Adding to the challenges, an exam paper was leaked today, prompting an immediate investigation. Naseem Memon assured that those responsible for the leak would face strict consequences. He reaffirmed K-Electric’s cooperation in preventing load shedding, ensuring that this aspect of the examination process ran smoothly.
The Board continues to strive for a fair and secure examination environment, despite the ongoing hurdles of mismanagement and security breaches.
