A Rangers official deployed at the University of Karachi suspended after allegedly slapping Professor Dr. Afaq Ahmed Siddiqui during an argument in the Staff Colony. The incident took place on July 15, 2025.
The incident started when the professor complained about setting garbage on fire by a Rangers guard outside his house. It is said that the burning was meant to keep animals safe from mosquitoes. This followed a heated argument which saw the guard slapping the professor.
The incident resulted in the professor’s glasses breaking and a minor eye injury. Faculty members and the Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) raised serious concerns over the act, calling for disciplinary action.
Following the incident, the Karachi University Teachers Society held a meeting with the Rangers Sector Commander. The official assured the teachers’ body that the guard had been suspended and that a formal inquiry had been initiated.
The Sector Commander also personally visited Professor Afaq Ahmed Siddiqui, condemned the incident, and issued an apology on behalf of the force. University Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi also met the professor at his home.
According to sources from the Karachi University administration, the suspended official will face internal disciplinary proceedings. Teachers across Karachi University campuses have demanded transparency and swift action to ensure campus security.
