In response to the severe heatwave, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s government has modified the operating hours for public schools and announced summer vacations starting June 1st.
New School Timings
The provincial education department has adjusted school timings to mitigate the impact of the heat on students:
- Schools will now open at 7 AM instead of 8 AM.
- Primary schools will close at 11 AM.
- Middle, high, and higher secondary schools will close at 12 PM.
Summer Vacation Schedule
The summer vacation schedule has also been revised to ensure student safety:
- Primary schools: June 1st to August 31st
- Middle, high, and higher secondary schools: June 15th to August 31st
For schools in winter regions, the summer vacation period will be from July 1st to August 31st.
Federal Ministry’s Decision
The Federal Ministry of Education has also announced a reduction in school hours due to the extreme heat. Starting Monday, all educational institutions will operate from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Additionally, there will be no assembly or sports period to minimize the time students spend in the heat.
These measures aim to protect students from the adverse effects of the heatwave and ensure their well-being during the hottest months of the year.
