Authorities in Bagh district, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), have closed all public and private educational institutions for two days, August 18 and 19, following a high flood alert. The closure comes as the Pakistan Meteorological Department warns of flash flood risks in Pakistan and severe weather conditions in AJK.
Flash Flood Pakistan Warning Across AJK and Islamabad
The Met Office has predicted high rains and thunderstorms in several districts which include Bagh, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Haveli, Kotli, Mirpur and Bhimber. Such weather conditions make flash floods and landslides more likely in the hilly and mountainous regions. Islamabad, the federal capital, is also facing a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning in the next 24 hours, followed by intermittent breaks.

The current seventh monsoon spell has increased rainfall in the Northern Pakistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Azad Kashmir. According to the authorities of the Buner district, deaths exceeded 400 with many injured or went missing. There is relief and rescue operation in progress with the local authorities assisted by the armed forces. According to The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), another 2-3 rounds of monsoons anticipated and the intensity of rainfall projected to increase by 50% to 60% relative to earlier years.
