Pakistan’s literacy rate has climbed to 63 percent, while household internet access has surged to 70 percent, according to the latest Pakistan Bureau of Statistics survey. The new data also shows fewer infant deaths, better immunization coverage, and wider smartphone use across the country.
Pakistan is changing fast. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) just released the Household Integrated Economic Survey (HIES) 2024–25, and it shows a steady progress.
The Current Pakistan Literacy Rate and Education Trends
Pakistan literacy rate has officially increased to 63 percent, as against 60 percent. This growth comes directly on a drop in out-of-school children that fell to 28 percent and 30 percent. At 68 percent literacy mark, Punjab is positioned above, but the statistics indicate a great discrepancy in Balochistan which is currently standing at 49 percent. These statistics indicate that despite this growth in education, provincial disparities are one of the priorities of the 2026 policy planning.
A Massive Leap in Digital Inclusion
The most striking update involves technology. Household internet access has more than doubled, jumping from 34 percent to 70 percent. Personal internet use also soared from 17 percent to 57 percent. Today, 96 percent of Pakistani households own a smartphone. This connectivity is reshaping how families learn and communicate across the country.
Health and Household Spending Shifts
Health indicators are finally moving in the right direction. Infant mortality dropped from 60 to 47 per 1,000 live births. Immunization coverage improved to 73 percent. On the home front, families spend 37 percent of their income on food and 26 percent on housing. Clean fuel use has also risen to 38 percent.
This data provides a clear roadmap for the future. The rise in the Pakistan literacy rate and the surge in digital tools suggest a nation preparing for a more modern economy.
