Employees of the University of Peshawar have formally requested a financial bailout package from the Chief Minister and Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This comes after earlier appeals made to the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan failed to yield any response.
According to the employees, the University of Peshawar is facing a financial crisis, with a reported deficit exceeding Rs 1.5 billion. They have urged the provincial leadership to release immediate funds to stabilize the university’s operations and ensure funding adjustments in line with inflation, rising utility costs, and salary increments.
The employees stated in a letter that the university is on the verge of collapse due to continuous funding cuts since 2014 and an uneven distribution of resources. Despite repeated requests to the Chancellor, Finance Advisor, and other officials, no action has been taken.

The letter also showed that the employees who were in grade 17 to 22 were given a half of their salaries and pensions by July 20, 2025, and the rest of the payments still awaited the next month. The July 2025 pensions and salaries seems uncertain.

Also, the gratuity payment of hundreds of retired employees due in the last six years has not been paid and this has put financial strain on their lives.
The Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) had previously sent letters to the President and Prime Minister seeking financial support. Now, similar appeals have been made to the Chief Minister and Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
