PMDC Announces BDS Degree Extension to 5 Years, Effective from 2024-25 Session
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has officially decided to extend the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree program to five years, starting from the 2024-25 academic session. A spokesperson for the PMDC explained that the previous 4-year BDS program created significant hurdles for Pakistani graduates, especially in terms of seeking educational opportunities and job prospects overseas. The extended 5-year BDS program will include an additional year dedicated to clerkship, followed by a one-year house job.
