Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarships Number Increased from 4000 to 25,000

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has greenlit the ‘Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarship Program’, significantly boosting opportunities for students across the province. Under her directive, the number of scholarships will surge from 4,000 to an impressive 25,000.

In a special session of the Higher Education Department, CM Maryam announced that scholarships will cover all tuition fees for BS degree students at government and selected private universities. She emphasized the private sector’s role in improving higher education access, noting its potential to benefit youth in remote areas.

Additionally, CM Maryam ordered the swift establishment of new universities in Jhelum, Vehari, and Bahawalnagar. She also endorsed proposals for new universities under public-private partnerships, aiming to facilitate private sector contributions in this sector. Furthermore, she initiated plans to launch a laptop scheme without delay.

In efforts to enhance educational quality, the Chief Minister mandated the introduction of market-driven disciplines in smaller colleges and insisted on a transparent merit-based online appointment system for Divisional Directors and Principals. A proposal to provide new buses to government colleges was also tabled and discussed.

Recognizing the importance of oversight, CM Maryam proposed the formation of a high-level ministerial committee to oversee private universities’ operations. She also announced plans to establish the Punjab Board Coordination Commission to streamline educational board affairs.

Expressing satisfaction over the successful implementation of MD CAT and E CAT free classes in 90 colleges, CM Maryam stressed the gradual expansion of these classes to benefit students in remote regions. She commended Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat and the Higher Education Department for their efforts.

The meeting, chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, included senior officials such as Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Secretary of Higher Education Dr. Farrukh Naveed, among others, who provided detailed briefings and recommendations.
