Punjab Schools Closed Feb 6-9 for Elections

Punjab’s upcoming general elections prompt temporary closure of schools, colleges, and universities.

In a strategic move ahead of the scheduled general elections on February 8, the Punjab government, led by caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, has declared a brief respite for educational institutions. The decision, announced via social media platform X, outlines a holiday period from February 6 to February 9 for both public and private sector schools, colleges, and universities across the province.

The official statement posted by Chief Minister Naqvi reads, “In view of the upcoming general elections on 8th February, Provincial Cabinet has approved that all public and private sector schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will be closed from Feb 6th to Feb 9th.”

In addition to the temporary closure, there’s a notable adjustment in school timings. The usual 9:30 am start time for schools will be maintained only until February 3. After this date, regular school timings are set to be reinstated.

This decision is a strategic measure aimed at streamlining the election process and ensuring the safety and convenience of both students and staff during this crucial period. Voters and educational stakeholders are urged to stay informed and plan accordingly as the election-related break approaches.
