In a recent development, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Usman Anwar, has vehemently refuted claims circulating on social media regarding the closure of educational institutions in the region due to alleged security threats. An unverified notification had surfaced, suggesting the shutdown of public and private schools, colleges, and universities in Lahore and other cities from January 25 to 28.
IGP Usman Anwar categorically dismissed these reports, assuring the public that there is no credible security threat, and no official directives have been issued to close educational institutions. Labeling the information as “fake news,” he urged citizens not to pay heed to such misinformation. Furthermore, he pledged to take legal action against those responsible for spreading false information.
This clarification follows an earlier incident in Islamabad, where several universities were temporarily closed due to security concerns. Notably, Bahria, Air, and Defence universities were shut down by the administration. However, Islamabad Police chief Dr Akbar Nasir Khan asserted that the security situation in the capital city remains firmly under control.
As concerns over the security of educational institutions persist, authorities are emphasizing the importance of relying on verified information from official sources and discouraging the spread of unverified news on social media platforms. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation unfolds.
