LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed has pledged to revive the University’s academic superiority and increasing research output.
Punjab University VC Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed urged the teaching staff to focus on quality of education. He also said that the lecturers should focus on economic impact research. He assured the teachers that the university administration will fully support them for this.
While his visit to various departments on grounds of a new campus of the varsity, VC spoke to the faculty members. Dr Niaz told them that the purpose of universities was to create new knowledge for others.
Continuing on the topic he said if a university was not creating any new knowledge to impart, its useless in its purpose.
He also said that Punjab University will play an active role for socio-economic development of the state.
Assuring administration’s support, he said that the administration would also focus on improving quality of graduates. Speaking on increasing research based productivity, VC said the administration will fill research based positions on merit basis.
Dr Niaz Ahmed said that the university will not compromise over quality of faculty members. He added that making unjust appointments was unjust with the institution as well as the nation.
He added that the merit in PU will be upheld and varsity’s rule of law would reflect in all affairs. Prof Dr. Niaz said the administration will help increase academic and research culture of the university to match standards of top-ranked universities in the world.
On the occasion, the VC inaugurated Chemical Reaction Engineering Lab at Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology.
The faculty members that Dr Niaz spoke to congratulated him on his appointment. They said that because of his leadership skills the long standing problems of the institute will be resolved.
