The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and Punjab’s School Education Department are expected to announce the schedule for winter vacations 2024 in the coming weeks. These holidays are a much-anticipated break for students and teachers as temperatures continue to drop.
Winter Vacations 2024 in Islamabad
The FDE typically declares a one-week winter vacation during extreme cold weather in federal schools and colleges. For this year, it is anticipated that the winter holidays will begin on December 21, 2024, and end on December 29, 2024, with schools reopening on December 30, 2024.
However, there is a possibility of extending the holidays until December 31, 2024, with schools resuming on January 1, 2025.
Post-holidays, the FDE is also expected to review the teaching schedules to accommodate the changing weather and academic requirements.
Winter Vacations 2024 in Punjab
In Punjab, the School Education Department generally announces two-week-long winter vacations due to harsh weather conditions. This year, winter vacations in Punjab are likely to start on December 21, 2024, with schools reopening on January 1, 2025.
However, the final dates depend on weather conditions. December in Punjab is characterized by dense fog and a significant temperature drop of 7 to 8 degrees Celsius, making it challenging for students to attend classes.
Last year, the provincial government initially announced winter vacations from December 18 to December 31, 2023, but later extended them to January 9, 2024, due to severe weather conditions.
Why Winter Vacations are Crucial
Winter vacations provide a necessary break for students and teachers to recharge during the coldest time of the year. They also ensure the safety of students, especially in regions prone to extreme cold and fog.
Stay tuned for the official announcements from the FDE and Punjab’s School Education Department to plan accordingly.
