According to a recent report from a local media outlet, there could be a delay in the start of the upcoming academic year in Sindh because the printing of necessary textbooks has not yet started.
The Sindh Education Department’s Steering Committee has arranged a meeting to discuss the textbook production issue, according to an official statement. A meeting to start the academic year in August is likely to be approved, according to insider knowledge.
Sources attribute the delay in textbook printing to an ongoing dispute between the Publisher and the Education Department. The Sindh Education Department emphasizes that a minimum of four months is indispensable for the successful printing and timely delivery of the required educational materials.
Highlighting a recent conflict of interest, last month, the Education Department initiated an inquiry into the unauthorized sale of complimentary textbooks provided by the Sindh Text Board. These textbooks, originally designated for students in government schools, were discovered being sold to scrap dealers in Golarchi Tehsil, Badin District.
The alarming incident came to light after a video depicting the unauthorized sale of textbooks from the Sindh Text Board to scrap dealers went viral. As a swift response, the authorities promptly seized the books, addressing the issue at hand.
This sequence of events not only sheds light on the potential delay in the commencement of the academic year but also underscores the need for a resolution to the conflicts affecting the timely provision of educational resources in the region.
