Sindh Board New Grading System 2026: Marks Abolished for Matric & Inter Exams

In the year 2026, a new system of grading all the matric and intermediate exams has been approved by Sindh government. Marks will be substituted with grades ranging between +A to U. Students who score below 40% will not pass but they are allowed to rewrite. The new system will harmonize the outcome of boards and be ready to have the GPA implemented in the future.

All educational boards have been given a new grading system that has been passed by the Sindh government. This system removes the use of numerical marks to represent matric (SSC) and intermediate (HSSC) exams with grades. Students with scores less than 40 percent will be stipulated as failed.

Provincial Minister for Boards and Universities, Muhammad Ismail Rahu, said the move aligns with federal IBCC policies. Implementation will be gradual across the province.

The system starts with first-year exams of 9th and 11th grades (SSC-I / HSSC-I) in 2026. By 2027, it will cover 10th and 12th grades (SSC-II / HSSC-II).

How the New Grading System Works

  • ++A (Double A Plus): 96% – 100%
  • +A (A Plus): 91% – 95%
  • A: 86% – 90%
  • ++B (Double B Plus): 81% – 85%
  • +B (B Plus): 76% – 80%
  • B: 71% – 75%
  • +C (C Plus): 61% – 70%
  • C: 51% – 60%
  • D: 40% – 50%
  • U (Ungraded / Fail): Below 40%

Students failing any subject will get a chance to retake that exam. Minimum passing marks are 40%.

Purpose of the New Grading System

Muhammad Ismail Rahu said the system aims to standardize grading across Sindh. It will also prepare boards for a future GPA system. Once fully implemented, students will have uniform grades across Pakistan.

The Sindh government has officially approved the policy. Boards will start using it immediately for all upcoming SSC and HSSC exams.
