KARACHI – According to a notification released on Tuesday, the Sindh government has confirmed summer vacations 2024 in Karachi for schools from June 1 to July 31. This decision aligns with the recommendations of the Sindh Education and Literacy Department’s steering committee.
Like Punjab, Sindh had considered postponing summer vacations due to the ongoing heatwave. However, the government decided to adhere to the original schedule.
Extended Summer Vacations in Punjab
In contrast, the Punjab government recently announced an extension of school holidays from May 25 to 31, citing the intense heatwave as the primary reason for this precautionary measure.
Matric Exam Postponed in Karachi
The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has also rescheduled the ninth and matriculation exams from May 21-27. This decision was made in response to the severe weather conditions forecasted for the city. The notification highlighted the heatwave alerts issued by both the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
Heatwave Precautions Across Provinces
With a severe heatwave expected to hit Punjab and Sindh from today (Tuesday), federal and provincial authorities are taking steps to safeguard public health. The extreme temperatures pose a significant risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat stroke, which can have a mortality rate ranging from 10% to 80%.
