In a significant move towards fostering academic excellence, the University of Karachi (UoK) has forged a strategic partnership with the University of Karachi Alumni Association, Houston, Texas (UKAHA) in the United States. This collaboration set to make higher education more accessible by providing essential “need-based” scholarships to students.
The newly inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlines a comprehensive plan to offer financial assistance through the “UKAHA Academic Achievement Award.” This initiative will cover two semesters and benefit students from a diverse array of departments, including international relations, economics, psychology, mass communication, chemistry, statistics, mathematics, and computer science.
During the official MoU signing ceremony, UoK Vice Chancellor, Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, commended the UKAHA for its pivotal role in supporting students and its unwavering commitment to the alma mater. Dr. Iraqi emphasized the global recognition of UoK students, highlighting their potential and the university’s profound impact on their success.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by inflation and rising living costs, the UKAHA has demonstrated its commitment by doubling its annual financial grant to Rs one million, up from the previous Rs500,000, as stipulated in the 2019 agreement. This increased financial support underscores the association’s dedication to addressing the evolving needs of students.
President Muhammad Azam Akhtar, representing UKAHA Houston, expressed gratitude to the university and its faculty for their instrumental role in alumni success. He affirmed the continued support of the alumni body to students in the future, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and alumni associations in empowering the next generation.
