Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has approached the Delhi High Court against the circulation of fake AI images and unauthorized use of her name and likeness online.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan mentioned in her appeal that she has not given consent to various sites using her photographs, manipulated videos which are digitally altered, and artificial images of intimacy created by AI. She pointed out that fraud websites are impersonating her official sites, and there are those selling merchandise in her name and image including mugs and T-shirts.
The petition also mentions that certain manipulated images are being circulated in intimate and indecent forms, which she described as completely unreal and AI-generated.
The matter came before Justice Tejas Karia in the Delhi High Court. The court has indicated its plan to issue ad-interim injunctions to restrict the misuse of her image until the case is decided. The court has directed her legal team to provide specific URLs so that action can be taken against the platforms sharing these fake AI photos.
The next hearings are scheduled before the Joint Registrar on November 7, 2025, and before the full court on January 15, 2026.
Following Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s move, her husband Abhishek Bachchan has also filed a similar petition before the Delhi High Court. He has tried to obtain protection of his personality rights, on the basis of unauthorized use of his name, images, and AI-generated fake content.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan fake AI images contribute to the increasing number of lawsuits in digital rights, deepfakes, and celebrity identity abuse in India. As both Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan took the case to court, the problem of the misuse of AI deepfakes has acquired a prominent role in terms of legal consideration.
