#Metoo: Now the ‘Sanskari Baabuji’ Alok Nath Accused of Sexual Harassment
Vinta Nanda, who is a veteran writer-producer and has written famous works include the avant-garde 1990s’ show Tara fame, wrote a Facebook post that shocked many Bollywood fans. She accused Alok Nath of sexually violating and raping her almost two decades ago.
While making suggestive remarks like “sanskaari”, Nanda pointed fingers at Bollywood’s Alok Nath as her sexual harasser. Nanda said, “It is Alok Nath. I thought saying ‘sanskaari‘ would do the needful.”
Alok, who is known for his stereotypical roles as an Indian father in films and TV shows, has been accused to sexual misconduct.
The recent #MeToo wave recently gave Nanda the courage to pen down her experiences which had left her shattered.
While sharing her experience, Nanda recounted the incidents that happened after she had left a party at Alok’s house at 2 a.m. She said in her post that her drinks were mixed. She didn’t feel good at that time so she decided to head off to home early.
She revealed that Alok followed her in his car and suggested to give her a ride home. She trusted him and when sat in his car, he forcefully made her drink more alcohol and violated her. The next morning, she found herself unable to get up, along with sharp pain between her legs. She felt brutalized.
When Nanda told her friends, they advised her to forget about the incident and move on.
Later, she got a job to write and direct a series for Plus Channel, where she crossed paths with Alok again.
Nanda explained that the reason it took so long for her to come out with the truth was because while she was working on this new series, she says, “he asked me to come to his house again and I went to allow him to violate me”.
Nanda has urged people “who have suffered at the hands of predators, to come out and say it aloud”. “Don’t hold yourselves back. This is a moment for change, so your silence will only hold barriers to its evolution. Speak out. Shout out from the top of the roof.”
Now, Alok Nath just responded to Vinta’s allegations in a very dismissive manner.
While speaking in an interview today, Alok said that he was neither accepting nor agreeing with Vinta’s allegations. “It (rape) must have happened, but someone else would have done it. Well, I do not want to talk much about it As for the matter, if it has come out, it will be stretched,” he said.
The actor then went on to take credit for Vinta’s career success and claimed that she was a good friend. Alok also added that “in a way” he was responsible for making Vinta who she is today.
