A Rolls-Royce Phantom car once owned by Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan was fined by Bengaluru RTO officials to the tune of INR 18.53 lakh because of non-payment of Karnataka road tax. The posh vehicle that was subsequently in use by the Bengaluru based businessman Yusuf Sharif was registered in Maharashtra despite the local rules on the registration of the vehicles.
Similar penalties were given to another Rolls-Royce Ghost owned by the actor Aamir Khan earlier at INR 19.73 lakh. The total fine is INR 38.26 lakh. Both the luxury vehicles belonged to Yusuf Sharif aka KGF Babu, who did not transfer the ownership and re-register the vehicle in Karnataka within 12 months of use as the law mandates.
According to RTO officials, both vehicles were being used in Bengaluru beyond the one-year limit for out-of-state vehicles, without paying the required road tax under the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Taxation Act. The Phantom had reportedly been in the city since 2021, while the Ghost arrived in 2023. Both continued to carry Maharashtra number plates, triggering legal action from the regional transport authority.
The fines have been paid, and no vehicles were seized. Officials confirmed that although the cars are no longer owned by Amitabh Bachchan or Aamir Khan, the registration papers still reflect their names due to non-completion of ownership transfer by the current user.
