LOS ANGELES: Former US President, Barack Obama and former First Lady, Michelle, sign deal with Netflix for production.
The first black president of US, Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have signed a deal with streaming site Netflix. The deal consists of feature films, documentaries and scripted or non-scripted series.
One source said that the Obamas will be involved in the production directly. It also said that they might even appear in some of the shows while for others they will oversee them.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed to the media. The first of the content is not to reach viewers before May 2019.
The agreement between the Obamas and Netflix is a first time for any President or occupant of the White House.
The President and First lady have given out no details of what the kind of content they plan to cover. However; the content is not expected to be political.
Barack Obama stated that they hope to cultivate and oversee the inspiring and creative voices. He added that these are people who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between people.
Netflix chief content officer told that the Obamas are uniquely positioned to discover and highlight stories of people. They can promote people who make a difference in their communities and work hard to bring change the world for the better.
Netflix boasts 125 million subscribers worldwide and is one of the biggest streaming companies of the world.
Netflix is also producing Martin Scorsese’s next film starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino which has one of the biggest budgets in movie history.
