Renowned Pakistani preacher and former singer, Junaid Jamshed, is remembered for his transformation from music to Islamic preaching. Recently, his second wife, Razia Junaid, revealed never-before-heard details about his emotional state before the fatal Chitral plane crash on December 7, 2016.
In her first-ever podcast appearance, Razia Junaid spoke about the days leading up to the tragic PK-661 plane crash, which claimed the lives of Junaid Jamshed, his wife Neha Junaid, and over 40 others.
“He Was Restless Before Leaving for Chitral,” Says Razia Junaid
Razia shared that Junaid Jamshed had a habit of inviting his wives to join him on travels. However, she declined the Chitral trip due to her exams. “Before leaving for Chitral, he appeared very restless. I had never seen him like that before,” she recalled emotionally.
She mentioned that Junaid had just returned from the United States and was preparing for a short 5–6 day trip to Chitral, which unexpectedly extended to 10 days. “Despite poor network connectivity, he kept in constant touch and updated us about his safety. In hindsight, it feels like he had a sense of what was about to come.”
“I Was Holding the Quran When I Heard the News”
Razia became emotional while remembering how she received the devastating news. “I was attending a Quran class with the Holy Quran in my hands when his manager called and said the plane was missing. We had no TV, so I asked my son to check online. That’s when we found out about the crash.”
Junaid Jamshed’s Last Days Were Spent in Preaching
Junaid Jamshed, once a celebrated pop singer, left music at the peak of his career to fully dedicate his life to Islam. He became a well-respected figure in Islamic preaching and naat recitation. His final journey to Chitral was also for Tableegh (preaching), where he spent his last days spreading the message of Islam.
