Yasir Hussain’s latest theatre play Monkey Business is facing massive backlash on social media due to controversial performances featuring Bollywood songs. The play, which is currently running at Arts Council Karachi from 5 April to 20 April 2025, has stirred strong reactions from both critics and fans.
Monkey Business theatre play under fire for bold performances
The theatre play Monkey Business, starring Yasir Hussain and Umer Aalam in lead roles, became the center of attention after clips from the opening show went viral. In these videos, both actors can be seen wearing female attire and performing dance numbers on famous Bollywood songs like Saaki Saaki and Shava Shava.
The performance didn’t sit well with many social media users, who slammed Yasir Hussain for promoting Indian content on a Pakistani stage. Celebrities like Iqra Aziz, Saboor Aly, Faisal Quraishi, and Ejaz Aslam were seen attending the premiere, adding more buzz to the controversy.
Yasir Hussain accused of double standards
Soon after the videos circulated, many social media users began calling out Yasir Hussain for his “hypocrisy.” Critics pointed out that while he often targets others for supporting Indian content, he himself danced on Indian songs in front of a live audience. One user wrote, “We expected this from Yasir — always criticizing others but doing the same himself.”
Another comment read, “These people bash Indian shows on TV but play Indian songs in private parties and dramas. What a double standard!”
Religious sentiments and cultural values also questioned
Some viewers reacted strongly from a religious and cultural point of view, criticizing the performers for wearing women’s clothes and promoting dance culture on stage. “This is how so-called Muslims behave — dancing and singing till death,” one comment read.
At the same time, some users defended Pakistani drama industry, urging everyone to focus on original Pakistani stories instead of copying Bollywood-style content.
As of now, Yasir Hussain has not released any official statement regarding the criticism. However, social media continues to buzz with heated arguments between his supporters and critics. Whether Monkey Business continues to draw crowds or fades under pressure, only time will tell.
