Social media storms with reactions over Atif Aslam’s disputed performance


Renowned Pakistani singer Atif Aslam put himself in trouble as he sang a Bollywood song during Independence Day Parade at in New York City.

Atif Aslam is facing criticism for singing Bollywood song during Independence Day Parade while he’s also receiving statements in favor. Atif  sang “Tera Hone Laga Hoon” from “Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani”. In addition, he also sang “O Saathi” from “Baaghi 2”.

Some news reports are claiming that Atif Aslam also refused to waive Pakistani flag and declined to chant “Pakistan Zindabad”.

As soon as the news came, it went viral on the social media. People including renowned singers are divided on the issue as Atif is gaining both support and criticism.

Actor and Singer Nadeem Jafferi said that Atif Aslam should be ashamed for singing Bollywood songs at the Parade. He said that it was inappropriate for Atif to sing Indian songs on such occasion.

Another critic bashed Atif for the controversial move and asked to boycott him in future.

A person on Twitter said that if allegations are true then it is a much stupid thing.

Reaction from Supporters

However, renowned singer Shafqat Amanat Ali strongly supported Atif.

PTI leader and famous singer Abrar-ul-Haq advised Atif to remain careful in future. He said that Atif should be forgiven for mistake but it was inappropriate to sing Bollywood song at that occasion. Here is his statement:

“He should be forgiven for the inadvertent mistake, but it was rather insensitive to sing an Indian song at such an occasion.”

A supporter blamed media for the defamation of Atif and elaborated that the singer is a true Pakistani.

Reaction of Independence Day Parade Attendee

Nayaab Khan, a person who attended the event also strongly defended Atif.
