9 May Case: Top PTI Leaders Sentenced to 10 Years, Fawad Chaudhry Walks Free

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Faisalabad delivered its verdict in two May 9 violence cases. The court sentenced 108 individuals, including PTI leaders Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul, and MNA Sahibzada Hamid Raza, to 10 years in prison each.

Of the 185 individuals charged in the case of attacks, 108 were convicted and 77 others acquitted. Junaid Afzal Sahi got a 3-year sentence, which is the minimum sentence to the convicts.

Fawad Chaudhry, Khayal Ahmed Kastro, and Zain Qureshi, the son of Shah Mehmood Qureshi, were acquitted in the court due to being unproven. There was a high level of security both in and out of the court as the hearing went on.

PTI leaders plan to appeal the verdict in the Lahore High Court. The cases are part of a broader legal process against those involved in the May 9, 2023 riots, following attacks on military and state buildings.
