An anti-terrorism court in Lahore on July 23, 2025, announced its decision in the May 9 violence case involving speeches and arson at Sherpao Bridge. The court acquitted six individuals, including former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and sentenced eight Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers to 10 years in prison each.
The verdict delivered by Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Arshad Javed. The acquitted individuals are Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Hamza Pahat, Aizaz Rafiq, Iftikhar, Zias, and Rana Tanveer.
Those sentenced include prominent PTI leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed. Other convicts are Afzal Azeem Pahat, Khalid Qayyum Pahat, Ali Hassan, and Riaz Hussain.
The May 9 case involves charges of delivering provocative speeches and torching public property near Sherpao Bridge following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. The court proceedings fall under the Anti-Terrorism Act, reflecting the government’s continued crackdown on the May 9 incident.
