Altaf Hussain (founder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement) was discharged on Saturday after undergoing treatment on a chest infection in a London hospital. This happened after a sudden, serious turn in his health that forced him to make emergency hospitalization on August 8, 2025.
According to the MQM’s official statement on X, an emergency medical team reached Altaf Hussain’s residence in London after a health crisis. He was given initial treatment at home before being transferred to a nearby hospital for further care.
MQM confirmed on August 9 that Altaf Hussain was released from the hospital after stabilization and treatment. No additional details on his ongoing care have been provided.
According to July 2025 Altaf Hussain news, there are a number of hospitalizations related to recurring health problems:
- July 9–10: Admitted to Barnet Hospital for severe breathing difficulties, later transferred to Wellington North Hospital as his condition worsened.
- July 11–20: Hospitalized to receive treatment for complications such as cardiac stress and a non-healing wound on the foot under diabetes. He was tested many times: a blood work, an ECG, CT scan, X-ray, and ultrasound and given a few blood transfusions.
- July 13–22: Continued hospital care under a specialist team led by cardiologist Dr. David Lipkin. Physiotherapy was initiated, and brief assisted walking was reported.
Altaf Hussain has some chronic health conditions, which are diabetes and a record of cardiac stress. Emotional stress related to political and legal issues also connected to hospitalization in the past. He was hospitalized in the ICU in 2021 two cases of contracting COVID-19 disease.
The MQM Coordination Committee and senior leader Mustafa Azizabadi have regularly updated supporters about Altaf Hussain’s condition on X, urging prayers and charity. In July 2025, they publicly refuted false reports of his death on social media.
