World’s Ugliest Dog 2025: Petunia Crowned Winner with $5,000 Cash Reward

World’s ugliest dog, Petunia, a 2-year-old hairless hybrid of the French bulldog and A French-English bulldog mix named World’s Ugliest Dog Contest 2025 at Sonoma County Fair in Eugene, Oregon.

Petunia was rescued from a hoarding breeder in Las Vegas, and she had an elongated palate, a condition named in Oregon due to unethical breeding techniques. Approximately 10 other dogs were competing in the contest with her, such as the dog called the little Prince Wonder and the Nezumi. Judges remarked her unusual wrinkles and unusual skin texture.

The World’s Ugliest Dog Contest has been held annually for nearly five decades, promoting pet adoption and celebrating the uniqueness of rescue animals. Organisers highlight that the contest focuses on awareness rather than appearance.

As the winner, Petunia received a $5,000 cash prize, an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show, and will be featured on limited-edition Mug Root Beer cans. On the show, her handler said she is often described as “wonky” instead of ugly, emphasising the message that every dog deserves love and care.

This year’s event also underscored the importance of adopting animals from shelters and rescue centres in the United States and globally. Petunia’s win has drawn attention to responsible pet ownership and the issues linked to unethical breeding.
