The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced that 1st Muharram 2025, marking the beginning of 1447 Hijri, expected to fall on Friday, June 27, 2025, subject to moon sighting on the evening of Thursday, June 26, 2025.
According to SUPARCO, the new moon of Muharram expected to be born on June 25, 2025, at 3:32 PM Pakistan Standard Time. By the time of sunset on June 26, the moon’s age will be approximately 28 hours and 15 minutes, which meets the visibility criteria for crescent sighting.

In coastal areas of Pakistan, the time gap between sunset and moonset expected to be around 75 minutes, which provides a suitable window for observing the new moon. Based on astronomical calculations, moon visibility is likely if the weather remains clear.
SUPARCO also stated that all calculations and visibility forecasts are shared with the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will officially confirm the sighting of the moon after evaluating field reports from across the country.
If the moon is sighted on June 26, then 1st Muharram 1447 Hijri will begin on June 27, 2025, officially marking the Islamic New Year in Pakistan.
People across the country advised to wait for the official statement regarding the 1st Muharram 2025 date in Pakistan, which will be issued after the moon sighting meeting on June 26.
