As the echoes of Eid ul Fitr festivities fade, the global Muslim community, particularly in Pakistan and the UAE, eagerly awaits the next significant Islamic event, Eid ul Adha. This festival, slated for June 2024, is expected to usher in a five-day weekend, offering a much-anticipated break from routine.
Eid ul Adha, the second major Islamic festival, typically arrives approximately two months after Eid ul Fitr. The exact dates, however, are determined by the lunar-based Islamic calendar and the sighting of the crescent moon.
Eid ul Adha 2024: Key Dates
According to the Hijri calendar provided by Dubai’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), the first day of Dhul Hijjah is likely to fall on Saturday, June 8. Consequently, Arafah Day is projected to be on Sunday, June 16, followed by the commencement of Eid ul Adha on Monday, June 17 (Dhul Hijjah 10).
The anticipated holiday period extends from Sunday, June 16, to Wednesday, June 19, inclusive of the preceding weekend (Saturday, June 15). However, these dates are provisional and subject to the actual sighting of the moon.
Note: The Islamic calendar’s months span either 29 or 30 days, contingent on the sighting of the crescent moon. Arafah Day is traditionally observed on Dhul Hijjah 9, with Eid ul Adha celebrations extending over the subsequent three days.
