The Saudi government has told their citizen to perform Eid ul Fitr prayers at home instead of Mosques because of the current situation of COVID-19.
According to Saudi’s Grand Mufti and head of the Council of Senior Scholars and the Department of Scientific Research and Ifta Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Sheik, it is permissible to perform Eid prayers at home during the exceptional conditions likened present pandemic scenario.
He said that this Eid prayer consists of 2 Rakats with more Takbeers and without a sermon. He further mentions that Zakat Al-Fitr could be given through charitable societies trustworthy and sure that it should be given out before the day of Eid.
On the other hand, Member of the Council of Senior Scholars and the Standing Committee of Fatwa, Sheikh Abdul Salam Abdullah Al-Sulaiman, explain that Eid prayers could be offered in the congregation or individually. While talking about the method of Eid prayer, he says that the person will recite takbeer to begin Salah and say it with more 6 takbeer before reciting Surah Fatiha loudly. Then it is better to read Surah Al-Qaf after that during the first Rakat.
During the second Rakat, there will be 5 takbeer after that in the beginning of the Rakat before reciting Surah Fatiha and then Surah Al-Qamar. It is also best to read Surah Al-A’la and Al-Ghashiya in its place of Al-Qaf and Al-Qamar in each Rakat, respectively.
In Saudi Arabia, Eid is expected to be on 23 May or 24, depending on the moon’s sighting.
