As the sacred month of Ramazan approaches, Muslims worldwide are preparing for the spiritual journey. Weather specialist Jawad Memon predicts a high probability (95%) of the first fast in Pakistan falling on March 12.
The inaugural taraweeh, an extra prayer performed by Sunni Muslims at night during Ramazan, is expected to take place on the evening of March 11. The first day of fasting will follow on March 12, according to Memon.
Memon further explains that while the new moon marking the start of Ramazan will be born on March 10, it will only become visible to the naked eye by March 11.
In line with tradition, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, based in Islamabad, will gather to receive and evaluate moon sighting reports. Zonal committees across the country will also meet in their respective regions for the same purpose. The official announcement of the moon sighting will follow these assessments.
Ramazan, a month of intense devotion and enthusiasm, will see millions of Pakistanis, along with billions of Muslims globally, observing fasts from dawn to dusk. The duration of the fasts will range from 12 to 17 hours, varying based on geographical locations worldwide.
In Pakistan, as in many other nations, Ramazan is characterized by heightened charitable activities and public food drives. Roadside stalls are set up for individuals returning home in the evening.
The holy month also brings a surge in business activities, driven by religious celebrations and shopping trends leading up to Eid ul Fitr, the festival marking the end of Ramazan.
