Sadqa-e-Fitr 2024 in Pakistan set at Rs. 300 per person

In a recent development, the mandatory charitable contribution known as Sadqa-e-Fitr, which Muslims are obliged to make during the sacred month of Ramadan, has been set at a minimum of Rs300 per person for the current year.

This significant announcement was made by the esteemed Chairman of the Shariah Board Pakistan, Sheikh Al-Hadith Professor Dr Mufti Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Jalali. The rates are determined based on the market prices of essential food items like flour, oats, dates, and raisins, adhering to the principles of Islamic Shariah.

As per the released statement, believers wishing to pay Fitra equivalent to the cost of oats or dates should contribute a minimum of Rs600 and Rs2,400 per person, respectively. In the same vein, those opting to pay Fitra at the rate of raisins are required to contribute Rs4,400 per person.

Dr Zafar emphasized that any Muslim with food surplus to their needs is obliged to pay Sadqa-e-Fitr before the Eid prayers. He further clarified that individuals unable to fast throughout Ramadan should pay Fidya (compensation). The Fidya amount varies based on the chosen staple food: Rs9,000 for flour, Rs18,000 for oats, Rs72,000 for dates, and a hefty Rs132,000 for raisins.
