In a high-level meeting held at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters on Wednesday, crucial approvals were granted for key infrastructure projects aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Islamabad. Among the most significant projects is the Faizabad Interchange expansion, a major initiative that promises to improve the flow of traffic in the twin cities.
Faizabad Interchange expansion project will involve adding two new lanes and widening the current infrastructure. This major upgrade is expected to reduce traffic bottlenecks, making daily commutes smoother for thousands of residents and commuters. This move is part of Islamabad’s broader effort to modernize its traffic system and provide better connectivity between key parts of the city.
In addition to the Faizabad Interchange expansion, the construction of a 2+2 lane underpass at Faisal Chowk was also approved. This underpass is expected to significantly ease congestion at one of Islamabad’s busiest intersections, improving overall traffic flow in the city.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who attended the meeting, emphasized that the Faizabad Interchange expansion and other associated projects must be designed with a future-oriented vision. He stressed the importance of considering the city’s growing traffic needs and urban development as part of the planning process.
During the meeting, Naqvi also directed the immediate operationalization of the completed parking plaza in the Blue Area. This long-awaited parking facility is expected to address the parking issues in Islamabad’s commercial hub, offering relief to both residents and business owners.
These key infrastructure projects, including the Faizabad Interchange expansion, reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility and addressing the traffic challenges faced by Islamabad. With these upgrades, the city’s transportation system is set to undergo significant improvements, benefiting commuters and contributing to the city’s overall development.
