Karachi is set to witness a major protest today as Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) takes to the streets against the rising number of accidents and fatalities caused by heavy traffic in the city. The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, Munim Zafar Khan, has held the Sindh government and the police department responsible for the increasing road mishaps, citing incompetence, corruption, and criminal negligence.
Jamaat-e-Islami Protest Demands
During a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq, Munim Zafar Khan announced that Jamaat-e-Islami will hold protest demonstrations at 15 locations across Karachi on Friday, February 21. He highlighted that accidents caused by dumpers, tankers, and other heavy vehicles are not just administrative or political issues, but a matter of precious human lives being lost on the roads.
JI has demanded the Sindh government compensate the families of accident victims with Rs. 10 million per victim. The party has also urged authorities to strictly enforce traffic laws, regulate heavy vehicle movement, implement road safety measures, and ensure adherence to speed limits and driving license laws.
Jamaat-e-Islami has called upon the citizens of Karachi to join the peaceful protest today at 5 PM. The protests will take place across multiple locations to pressurize authorities into taking immediate action.
