Munna Bhai 3 May Finally Begin Shooting in 2027

Munna Bhai 3 is finally taking shape. Writer Farhad Samji has joined director Rajkumar Hirani to write the script, according to a report by Variety India. The film is expected to begin filming in 2027, though no official date has been confirmed.

Who Is Writing Munna Bhai 3?

Samji is not new to the franchise. He wrote the opening lines of the song “M Bole Toh” for the first film, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., back in 2003. That song was first written for Shah Rukh Khan, who was an early choice for the lead role before Sanjay Dutt was cast.

This project brings Samji back together with Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, 23 years after they last worked together on that film.

Why Hirani Waited So Long

Hirani has said more than once that he will not make the film without a script that matches the first two movies. Speaking to Hindustan Times in June, he said: “If you only want to see Munna Bhai up to the interval, I can make five films right now. Because I don’t have the story beyond that point.”

He confirmed in June 2026 that the film would go ahead, saying the time had finally come.

Arshad Warsi has also spoken about the delay. He said three scripts had already been written for the film. Each one had good scenes and ideas, but none of them connected into a full story.

Who Will Be in the Film?

Sanjay Dutt is expected to return as Munna Bhai, and Arshad Warsi as his friend Circuit. The two last played these roles together in the 2006 film Lage Raho Munna Bhai, nearly two decades ago.

Neither the actors nor the makers have confirmed a filming date or release date so far. The script is still being written.
